Sagara was born along with poison GARA means poison Sa-GARA means along with poison. He was given poison by his many step mothers to kill him but with the pleasant blessing of OURVA rushi he was saved but took birth along with poison so the name sagara came to him. Later when he was grown up he defeated all the kshatriya kings who defeated his father and was about to kill all the enemies but with respect towards Guru Vashishta he stopped killing but forcibly converted the kshatriyas in to Mlecchas , aahunas etc with permanent beards, no mustache with shaved heads etc. Later when he was doing Ashwamedha Yagna his 60000 sons went in search for the ceremony horse up to rasaatalam by digging the earth and enlarging the ocean, because of this reason the ocean is called as SAAGARA.
