amshumaan firstly ruled the kingdom when his son dilip grown up and got the capacity of ruling the kingdom, amshumaan went to do penance for ganga penance for 32 thousands years for the sake of his 60000 uncles,later he went to heaven. dlip was unable to continue the penance,  king dilip ruled the kingdom for 32000 years and because of lack of mental peace about his grand uncles he died and went to heaven, later his son bhagiratha continued the penance for several thousands of years by which Lord brahma was happy and decided to send ganga to earth along with bhagiratha.
