doing bad karmas is far better than not knowing the bad and good of karmas ((papa punya karmas) , as humans have a capacity of knowing what is good and what is bad so they are mainly attacked or harassed by such bad deeds. But it is a different issue regarding animals, when it comes to animals they don't have a mental strength to know what is good or bad so the animals are not troubled by bad deeds which they do with out knowing that it is bad.
so we should try to know what is good or what is bad (papa punya karmas)  if we don't do so we will be in more trouble than doing the karmas
above 14 years every human will be blamed for not knowing Dharma and Adharma, below 14 years the parents of those children will be blamed for not letting their children to know dharma adharma (good and bad)
वर्षाच्चतुर्दशादूर्ध्वं ये न विद्युः शुभाशुभम् ।
तेषां अज्ञानजो दोषो सुमहान् कर्मजादपि ।।
तिरश्चाम् इन्द्रियशक्तेर्न दोषोऽज्ञानजो भवेत् ।
गुणोपि नैव कश्चित् स्याद् यतो ज्ञान बहिष्कृताः ।।
क्वचिद् गुणोपि दोषः स्यात् दोषोऽपि विधिना गुणः ।
गुणदोषार्थ नियमस्तद्विदामेव बाधते ।। (भागवत)
